AP란?

  • AP ( Advance Placement)는 대학수준의 과목을 고등학교에서 미리 수강하는 것을 말하며, 우수한 고등학생들에게 더 높은 수준의 학업기회를 주고자 하는 목적으로 매년 5월 전세계적으로 실시되는 시험을 통해 학생들이 대학의 학점을 취득할 수 있도록 하는 제도입니다. 명문대의 경우, AP 과목 숫자가 너무 적은 학생은 도전의식이 적은 것으로 간주되어 명문대 입학 가능성은 낮아지므로 상위권 대학을 지원하는 학생들에게는 필수이며, 3,600개 대학 중 상당수가 AP시험 점수를 입학사정에 반영하고 있으며 대학입학 시 가산점 역할을 합니다.

AP 시험 구성

AP시험 유형
  • (1) 객관식 (Multiple-choice Questions): Section I
  • (2) 주관식 (free Response Questions): Section II
AP시험의 점수
  • * 5점 - 대학에서 같은 과목을 수강했을 때 A
  • * 4점 - 대학에서 같은 과목을 수강했을 때 B
  • * 3점 - 대학에서 같은 과목을 수강했을 때 C
  • * 2점 - 대학에서 같은 과목을 수강했을 때 D
  • * 1점 - 의미 없음
소요시간
  • 과목마다 차이가 있으나, 약2시간 30분~3시간 정도 소요됩니다.

AP 시험 Tip

자녀 적성에 맞게 6~7 과목 집중 권장
  • 미국 학생들의 경우 자신이 원하는 AP 과목을 5~6개 정도의 듣는다. 한인 학생의 경우 10개 이상 듣는 사례가 많다. 너무 무리할 경우 오히려 필수적인 GPA 관리에 실패할 수 있기때문에 6-7개 과목에 집중하는 것이 좋습니다.
선행학습
  • 초반 학습이 가장 어려우며, 방학 등의 시간을 이용해 미리 공부하는 것도 효과적일 수 있습니다.

AP 시험 접수(신청) 방법

  • AP시험 신청하는 방법은 한미교육위원단을 통해서 신청하는 것과 국내의 지정된 AP센터에서 제공하는 시험에 응시하는 것 두가지 방법이 있습니다. 특정 학교에서 제공하는 시험에 응시할 경우, 그 학교 재학생만을 대상으로" 하는 경우도 있기 때문에 AP 서비스 센터 (888-225-5427 or apexams@info.collegeboard.org) 혹은 해당 학교에 연락을 해서 시험을 치를 수 있는 적당한 학교를 조사해야 합니다.

응시자격
  • - 1995년 3월 1일 이후 출생자
  • - 다른 AP시험장에 시험등록이 되어있지 않은 응시자 (단 타시험장에서 제공하지 않는 시험과목을 보고자 하는 경우는 등록가능)
  • - 동일과목을 같은해의 AP Regular시험과 AP Late에 동시 응시 불가
응시료
  • - AP Regular: 210,000원
  • - AP Late: 260,000원
